He was predeceased by : his parents, Isaac Dennis and Pearl Nichols Nelson; his granddaughters, Molly Katherine Nelson and Lilly Suesann Nelson; and his siblings, Anna Laura Wilson, Alvin Nelson, J. L. Nelson, Bill Nelson, Charles Nelson, George Nelson, Tommy Nelson and Sam Nelson.

He is survived by : his sister Jenny Goodner; his sons, Bart Nelson (Sherry), Jeffery Nelson (Tamari), Jonathan Nelson (Kerri), Jay Nelson (Tarissa) and Patrick Nelson (Maranda); and his grandchildren, Emily Hulvey (Jeremy), Shannon Vallery (Brian), Amanda Roscoe (Jason), Dylan Nelson (Jamie), Abby Nelson (Buck Akers), Grace Ambrosetti (Adam), Eliza Kilgore (Andrew), Kellsey Nelson and Lucas Nelson. He is also survived by several great grandchildren.
