He is survived by: his wife Opera Jones; his children, Lovely Minter, Brownsville, John Lax, Alicia Birdsong-Young, Memphis, Rita Birdsong, Mason, Richard J. Birdsong and Nashville; his siblings, Clementine Hill and George Birdsong; and also Memphis. He is also survived by eleven grandchildren, four Great Grandchildren.
