He was predeceased by: his wife Christine Majors Smotherman; his parents-in-law, Horace Edwin Smotherman (Ida Kathleen), Richard Henry "Dick" Smotherman (Mary), Nannie Ruth Brown (Robert), Etta Mae Holden (Jessie), Margaret Estill Smotherman, Eva Lilian Smotherman Lloyd and Elizabeth Ann Smith (Phillip); and his grandson Edward Dustin Mendez.
He is survived by: his children, Debra Parker (Kenneth) of Readyville, Martha Mendez (Albert Edward) of Christiana, Thomas Crockett Smotherman of Bell Buckle and Claudette Langston (John) of Tomball, Texas; his close friend Patricia Bearden of Shelbyville; his child Bennie Jo Smotherman of Parsons, Tennessee; and his grandchildren, Rodney Brandon, Jennifer Fletcher (Brad), Kim Wheeler (Lonnie), Ashley Mendez, Mitzie Mendez, Kesha Smotherman-Collier (Reginald), Varina Hinojosa, April Coleman (Rico), Joshua Goins (Kat), Jessica Carrington (Reggie) and Olivia Langston (Trey Shuck). He is also survived by nineteen great grandchildren, and one great great grandchild; many nieces and nephews.
