He was predeceased by: his parents, James Robert and Jessie Womack Nelms; his wife Marilyn Nelms; his son Lewis Randall Nelms, Jr. (Randy); his brothers, Thurman, Doyle and Paul Nelms; and his nephew Bob Nelms.

He is survived by: his daughter-in-law Leigh Anne; his grandchildren, Mitchell, Jordan and Teagan; and his sister-in-law Louise.
