He was predeceased by: his parents, Runa D. Hix and Mattie Ree Holt Hix; and his sister Betty Dell Merritt. He is survived by: his daughters, Lisa Schmiede (Rodney), Sheila Higgins (Donnie) and Angela Travis (Charles); his brother Dan Hix (Brenda); and his caregiver Susie Boyce. He is also survived by nine grandchildren, thirteen great grandchildren, one great great grandchild and his loving dog.
