Family and friends must say goodbye to their beloved Shirley McQueen Shumate of Shady Valley, Tennessee, who passed away at the age of 90, on June 11, 2022. She was predeceased by: her parents, Roby McQueen and Leona McQueen; her husband J. L. Shumate, Sr.; and her siblings, Kathleen Maxwell, Imogene Reece and Vernon McQueen.

She is survived by: her son John Shumate (Lorrie) of Shady Valley, TN; her sister Betty Hurley of Chambersburg, PA; her nephew Roger Reece; and her pets, Precious and Pumpkin. She is also survived by several other nieces and nephews.

In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting that donations be made to Shady Valley Volunteer Fire Department, c/o Conley Gentry, Walker Road, Shady Valley, TN 37688.

“Shirley was my mothers room mate at Mtn City Care Center. Myself ,Sandra Hodge, and my sister Debbie loved Shirley like she was my our mother. We enjoyed talking with her, and hearing her laugh. She always looked after my mother , and answered her questions all day long, because our mother had Dementia. Shirley had a lot of patience with her. She will be sadly missed.. Our condolences to John and Lorrie.”
