He was predeceased by: his parents, Walter Mendenhall and Bessie Mendenhall; and his siblings, Ed, Bill of Rufus, J. W., Bud, Don Mendenhall, Monie Johnson and Ella Mae Ashe.
He is survived by: his wife Carrie Mendenhall; his children, Monie Mendenhall, Herb Mendenhall Jr. and James Mendenhall (Reba); and his brother James Mendenhall (Alma). He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.
