He was predeceased by: his parents, Alvin Hurst and Nora Emily Hurst (Coleman); his son James Robert Hurst; his stepdaughter Angela Gammons; his grandson Barry Dial; and his sisters, Helen Curlin, Ruby Stanphill and Juanita McAlister.
He is survived by: his children, Pat Dial of Samburg, Debra Dunn Ferguson of Samburg, Tina Readenour of Washington State, Ricky Hurst of Dukedom, Richard Hurst of Washington State and Jody Hurst of Clarksville; his stepsons, Bart Lamb of Tiptonville and Scott Lamb of Hornbeak; and his siblings, Mary Lou Curlin of Hickman, Jean Hayes of Ridgely, Betty Blake of Memphis and Frank Hurst of Dover. He is also survived by several grandchildren and great grandchildren.
