He was predeceased by: his parents, Herman Hubert McGhee Sr. and Lila McGhee; his siblings, Anna Lee Collins, Nina McGhee and Garrett Montford McGhee; his sister-in-law Pauline McGhee; and his nephew Fred Collins.

He is survived by: his nephew Donald McGhee (Ann); his niece Wanda McGhee Schrader (Tim); and his niece-in-law Mildred Collins.
