He was predeceased by: his wife June Charles Courtney; his parents, Jesse Courtney and Beaulah Lea Elkins Courtney; his siblings, John R. Courtney (Lillian), Gale Kyle Courtney and Louise Courtney; his son Ralph W. Courtney; and his son-in-law Michael Thouin.

He is survived by: his daughters, Sharon Thouin and Amy Sanders (Mike); his grandchildren, Daniel Thouin (Lacy), Austin Long, Sydney Amarie (Cornel) and MacKenzie Sanders; his great grandchildren, Kadin and Noah Long; his sister Jessie Mae Davenport; and his sister-in-law Phyllis Courtney. He is also survived by several nieces, nephews, and in-laws.
