He was predeceased by: his wife Etta Mae Snyder Shanks; his son Michael; and his brother Edward. He is survived by: his daughter Janet Shanks Sulek (Gene); his grandson Howard L. Rogers, III; and his nieces-in-law, Carolyn Tarter and Lora Walker.
