He was predeceased by: his parents, James Gilliam and Carrie Gilliam; his daughter Penny Manis; and his siblings, James, Edward Gilliam, Jenny White and Patsy Higgins.
He is survived by: his daughter Sandy Cooke; his grandchildren, Shawn Trent (Stephanie), Brandon Trent (Tammy) and Emily Hart (Eugene); and his close friend Soozie Miller. He is also survived by five great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.
