He was predeceased by: his wife Lila Smith; his son Robert Joseph "Bobby" Smith Jr.; his parents, Julius Smith and Tressie Smith; and his siblings, Elizabeth Stone, Homer Smith and William Smith.

He is survived by: his son Kevin Smith (Madonna); and his grandchildren, Amber Lawson, Tiffany Deskins (Mike), Matthew Smith and Cheyenne Phillips (Brandon). He is also survived by Several Great Grandchildren And many other extended family members and friends.
