He was loved and cherished by many people including: his parents, Thomas "Doc" Owens and Zada Pauline McGregor; his sister Clata Owens; his stepmother Louise Owens; his stepsiblings, Tony Simmons, Bobby Simmons, Edward Simmons and Cathy Bouldin; his wife Rhonda Owens; his son Dr. Jeremy Owens (Brandy); his grandchildren, Jacob, Laken, Lila, Tyler and Maggie Owens; his siblings, Betty Woods, Bud Owens, Wanda Owens, Gail Burns, Sandy Hall and Glenda Hughes; his stepsiblings, Barbara Cantrell, Donnie Simmons, Linda McAdams and Frances Nolan; and his mother-in-law Wanda Smartt (Mike Bouldin). He was also cherished by many nieces and nephews.
