He was predeceased by: his parents, Sam James and Maggie Stanley Vaughn; and his siblings, George Vaughn, Sammy Vaughn, Robert Vaughn, Faye Midkiff and Bessie Russell.

He is survived by: his daughters, Pamela D. Preston (Darren) of Statesville, NC and Laurie Chason of Panama City, FL; his sister Inez Johnson of Ripley, TN; his grandchildren, Joseph Tabor, Brittany Tabor, Evonia Tabor, Alyssa Tabor, Alysson Mwezi, Elizabeth Costarell, Zechariah Preston and Hayley Preston; and his great grandchild Xander Crowder.
