He was predeceased by: his parents, James Edward and Lucy Wright Couey; and his brother Fred Couey. He is survived by: his wife Brenda Fagg Couey; his children, Denise Davis, Crystal Robinson (John), Samuel Dale Johnson (Kim) and Herbert Junior Johnson (Jenny); and his siblings, Mae King and Franklin Couey (Margie). He is also survived by many grandchildren and great-grandchildren, along with several nieces and nephews.
