He is survived by: his wife Loretta Merrell; his children, James (Lisa Merrell), Guinn Merrell (Garrett Merrell) and Mondella; his son-in-law Mark Bates; his brother Johnny Merrell (Mollie); and his grandchildren, Trainer Merrell of Reliance, Chelsea Merrell of Reliance and Rose Merrell of Reliance. He is also survived by several nieces, nephews and many friends.
