He was predeceased by: his parents, Edgar Matteson and Violet Coombs Matteson; and his son Christopher Matteson. He is survived by: his spouse Linda Churchill Matteson of Readyville; his sons, Carl Matteson of Vermont and Tim Matteson (Kristin) of Maine; his siblings, Danny Matteson of Vermont, Michael Matteson of North Carolina and Mary Varga of Indiana; and his grandchildren, Bailey and Hayden. He is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.
