She was predeceased by: her parents, John Riley and Beatrice Dawes Massey; her brothers, Ronald "Ronnie" and Donald "Duck" Massey; and her granddaughter Tiffany Sumners.

She is survived by: her husband James Defoe of Pulaski, TN; and her children, Patsy Adams, Martha Dickey of Pulaski, TN and Jimmy Defoe. She is also survived by Several grandchildren, great grandchildren, great-great grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
