He was predeceased by: his parents, Earl Nelson and Armetta Nelson (Inman); and his siblings, Goldie Martin, Correne Nelson, Martha Hill (Jack), Carolyn Morgan, Artis Ray Nelson, Calvin Nelson (Bobbie), Fred Nelson, Charles Nelson and Jimmy Risner.

He is survived by: his wife Joan Nelson; his daughters, Vicki Risner, Becky Payne and Kym Risner; his sister Susie Hood; his brother-in-law Bobbie Morgan; his Son-in-loves, Gerald Risner and Arthur Payne; his grandchildren, Johnathan Risner (Leah), Nick Risner (Katie), Bridgette Risner, Colton Risner (Stephanie) and Jacob Payne; and his great grandchildren, Ella Risner, Gabe Risner, Judah Risner, Aurelia Risner and Owen Risner.
