He was predeceased by: his parents, Russell Mathenie, Sr. and Maudean Wilkinson Mathenie; his children, Scottie Maverick Mathenie and Russell "Clay" Mathenie; and his siblings, Brenda Mathenie Magee and Kenneth Gwinn.
He is survived by: his niece Felecia Harguess; his nephews, Robin and Robert Hampton; and his sister-in-law Chong Ok "Mona" Gwinn. He is also survived by other family members and friends.
