He was predeceased by: his parents, Harry Guyer Carpenter and Glenda Adams Carpenter; his brothers, David Gardner Carpenter and Harry Guyer Carpenter Jr.; and his wife Elizabeth Little Carpenter.

He is survived by: his children, Charles Carpenter, Jr. (Beverly), Marie Sugrue (Pat) and Elizabeth Lackey (Bobby); his grandchildren, Matthew Schitea (Jamie), Kristin Schitea and Hannah Carpenter; his great grandchild CaleSchitea; his stepgranddaughter Nicole Sugrue; and his great grandchildren, Quinton, Adrian Sugrue and Londyn Sugrue.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Thaddaeus Episcopal Church, St. Francis of Assisi Episcopal Church, or Metropolitan Ministries.
