He was predeceased by: his brother Lynn Powell. He is survived by: his wives, Pat Powell and Patricia Powell; his daughters, Tracie Kennedy Richardson (Mike Richardson) of Oliver Springs, Stacie Cotto (Luis Cotto) of Alexandria and Sarah Jane McAfee (DeAunta McAfee) of Clarksville, TN; his sister Elsie Jo Moore of Saginaw; and his grandchildren, Gary Patrick Kennedy (Brandie), Nina Cotto, Dri McAfee and Robert Anderson McAfee.
