He was predeceased by: his son Robert Burley Hayes, III; and his parents, Robert Hayes (Cleo Hayes, Sr.) and Amelia Ozment Hayes. He is survived by: his children, Pam Hayes Gambill (Timmy) and Timmy Hayes (Audra); his grandchildren, Josh Hayes, Jeremy Hayes (Shannon), Brittany Cannon (Tony), Jessi Hayes, Dylan Gambill (Samantha), T. C. Hayes (Taylor), Olivia Hayes and Rett Hayes; and his sisters, Eleanor Farrer and Eva Warden (Jim). He is also survived by 6 great-grandchildren.
