He was predeceased by: his parents, Johnny Oscar "J. O." and Frances "Frankie" Palmer Charles; his brothers, Johnny "Little Joe" Oscar Charles, Jr. and Ricky Joe Charles; and his son Jake Leamon.
He is survived by: his wife Teresa Ann Floyd Charles; his children, Kristien Faith Charles and Jonathan Charles; and his sisters, Charlotte Boyd (Larry), Ruth Hearron, Johnnie Watson (Jeff Garrett), Eva McKeehan, Janet Gregory (Darrell) and Cheryl Moore. He is also survived by 7 grandchildren.
