He is survived by: his wife Barbara Ellen Glover Gates of Niota; his children, Michael Wayne Gates of Athens and Valerie Ann "Sissy" Gates Nolan (Chris) of Englewood; and his grandchildren, Logan Gates (Lauren), Tryston Nolan, Zoie Nolan Ramsey and Carter Nolan.
