He was predeceased by: his parents, Joseph Thompson and Martha Lucille Grantham Thompson; his brothers, Joe Tyner and Larry Thompson; and his great grandchild Liam Fields.

He is survived by: his wife Shirley Thompson; his daughter Kimberly Wells; his granddaughters, Kristin Nunn, Brandy Johnson and Brittany Fields; and his sisters, Janice Brock and Peggy Hull. He is also survived by seven great-grandchildren, several step-children and step-grandchildren.
