He was predeceased by: his parents, Harry Melton and Eloise Melton; his half-sisters, Tommie Samples and Ina Jane Kyker; his nephew Joe Samples; his niece Janie Littleton; his stepson Kenny Murr; and his sister-in-law Geraldine McMahan.

He is survived by: his wife Faye Murr Melton; his stepdaughters, Sharon Smallwood (Terry) and Debbie Seaton (Larry); his nephew Tommy Smith (Karen); his great-nieces and great-nephews, Leta Watson (Jason) and Melina Baird (Mark); his niece Lisa Caldwell; his great-nieces and great-nephews, Lindsay Ratliff (Jordan) and Travis Caldwell; his nephew Jeff Kyker; his sisters-in-law, Letitia Malone (Glenn) and Kaye Steelman; and his caregivers, Harry, Tammie Moore, Tammy Kyker, Debbie Nelson, Amanda Stuart, Damon "Andy" Dunkel and Cassie McGhee. He is also survived by numerous friends, cousins, and other relatives.
