He was predeceased by: his parents, T. E. Smith and Maymie Etheridge Smith; his former wife Bernell Head Smith; his children, Timothy Smith and Dovina Smith Johnson; and his son-in-law Tommy Johnson.
He is survived by: his wife Deane Ball Smith of Newport; his son Doug Smith of Charleston; his son-in-law Ronnie Dyke of Newport; his grandchildren, Tim Johnson, Brian Johnson (Christina), Deede Cogdill (Jason), Jamie Newport (Sam) and Kayla Smith; and his great grandchildren, Benjamin Johnson, Lucas Johnson and Kobe Cogdill.
A funeral service was held on Monday, January 20th 2025 at 1:00 PM at the Manes Funeral Home Chapel (363 E Main St, Newport, TN 37821). A reception was held on Tuesday, January 21st 2025 from 12:00 PM to 1:00 PM at the Moss Church of Christ (7798 Clay County Hwy, Moss, TN 38575). A burial was held on Tuesday, January 21st 2025 at the Of Christ Cemetery.
