He was predeceased by: his parents, Kyle Coakley and Agnes Coakley; his brothers, Max, Holland, William (Bill), Neil, Jerry, Glen and Jeff Coakley; and his nephews, Roger Coakley, David Coakley and Tim Coakley.
He is survived by: his wife Anna Sue Barnes Coakley of Newport; his children, Donna Sue Jones (James) of Greenville and Donald Edgar Coakley Jr. of Newport; his granddaughter Ella Jones of Greenville; and his brother-in-law Billy Barnes.
