She was predeceased by: her parents, Allen A. Johnson and Ruth McCage Johnson; her husband Joel H. Simmons, Sr.; her son Jon Gardner Simmons; and her granddaughter Melinda Ann "Missy" Michael.
She is survived by: her children, Joel Simmons, Jr. (Sascha) of Erie, Colorado, Alma Ruth Michael (Jimmy) of Newbern, Patricia Jarvis (Kip) of O'Fallon and Jane Lamb (Mark) of Newbern; and her niece Judy Gibbs Gregory of Newbern, Tennessee. She is also survived by seven grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
