He was predeceased by: his parents, William Edward "Bill" Cottrell and Pat Dunivant Cottrell Hickerson; his siblings, Don Cottrell and Katie Winchester; and his daughter Rhonda Wright.
He is survived by: his wife Diane Walker Cottrell of Newbern, Tennessee; his children, Phillip Cottrell (Amy) of Newbern, Trevor Cottrell (Cindy) of Trimble, Tennessee and Leannda Banks of Hendersonville, Tennessee; and his sister Janie Clements of Orlando, Florida. He is also survived by seven grandchildren and seven great grandchildren.
