He is survived by: his wife Lois Sowders (Mullins); his children, Becky Hadden (David) of Gatlinburg, Tennessee., Eric Sowders of New Tazewell and Aaron Sowders of Richmond, Kentucky; his grandsons, Jordan Hadden of Gatlinburg, Logan Sowders and Blake Sowders of Richmond Kentucky; his brother Bob Sowders (Edith) of Middlesboro, Kentucky.; and his siblings-in-law, Alta Sowders of Springfield Virginia, Irene Liford (Floyd) of New Tazewell, Tennessee, Eula Becket of New Tazewell, Tennessee, Joan Pillion (Oscar) of Tazewell, Tennessee. and Wade Nicely of Baneberry. He is also survived by his many friends and family.
