She was predeceased by: her husband Joseph Smith; her parents, Clarence Shumate and Ava Lee Shumate; her sister Helen Sue Shumate Wise; her children, David Smith (Connie), Mark Smith and Cynthia Samples; her grandchildren, Bailey Simpson (Jaren), Kristin Thornsbury (Bradly) and Brooklyn Samples; and her great grandchildren, Everleigh and Ezekiel Thornsbury.
She is survived by: her siblings, Robert Clarence Shumate, Jr., John William Shumate, James Allen Shumate, Dan Carson Shumate, Zola Mae Shumate Coffey, Robert Glen Shumate and Ellie Shumate Gordon. She is also survived by several nieces, nephews, other relatives, and innumerable friends.
