He was predeceased by: his parents, Nay Courtney and Mary Alice Shipley Courtney; and his siblings, Marvel, John Courtney and Rosa Lee Lane.
He is survived by: his wife Bennie Mae Reece Courtney; his children, Charles Courtney (Sharon), Susan Rhea (Tim) and Lynette Strickland (Stan); his grandchildren, Courtney, Kasey, Whitney, Randy, Elizabeth and Christopher; his great grandchildren, Kessiah, Cameron, Rylan, Leland, Avery, Easton, Tanner, Carson, Madelyn and Chloe; and his brothers, Truman Courtney (Ruby) and Bobby Courtney (Wanda). He is also survived by nieces, nephews, and cousins.
In lieu of flowers donations can be made to East Tennessee Children's Hospital.
