He was predeceased by: his parents, Ewing William McMurtry and Willie Charlotte Wilson McMurtry; his son David Haynes McMurtry; his half-sister Reba McMurtry Hill; and his grandsons, Russ Kelly and Jason Hewitt.
He is survived by: his wife Linda Haynes McMurtry of New Johnsonville, TN; his daughters, Susan McMurtry Kelly (Rusty) of LaVergne, TN and Anita McMurtry Hewitt of Smyrna, TN; his grandson Reed Kelly; his stepgrandsons, Michael Hewitt and Matthew Hewitt; and his stepgreat-grandchildren, Landon Hewitt, Eli Hewitt, Addisyn Hewitt, Aubrie Hewitt and Ariel Hewitt.
