He was predeceased by: his parents, Dr. Warren Gilmer Reed and Joan Meighan Reed; and his siblings, Warren Gilmore Reed II and Rebecca Marie Reed. He is survived by: his wife Elaine Miles Reed; his children, Hannah Elaine Reed, Emily Elizabeth Reed and Matthew Michael Reed (Grace Murray Reed); and his siblings, Joann Reed Koch, Eleanor Gilmer Reed and Joseph Whitmel Reed. He is also survived by extended family, and Dad to his children.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Aphasia Group of Middle Tennessee, the American Cancer Society, or Friends of the Great Smoky Mountains National Park.
