It is with deep sorrow that we announce the death of Gay Abernethy of Mountain City, Tennessee, born in Laurel Bloomery, Tennessee, who passed away on March 13, 2021, at the age of 96, leaving to mourn family and friends. She was predeceased by: her parents, Noah Pennington and Minerva Gilbert Pennington; her former husband Chester Greer; her husband Joe Abernethy; and her siblings, Alice Davis, Barbara McLendon, Odell, Robert, Clem, Staley, Fred, Joe, Wallace and Ivan Pennington.
She is survived by: her son Vance Greer (Iris) of Mountain City, TN; her stepchildren, Nancy Truitt and Donnie Abernethy (Diana) of Lincolnton, NC; her sister Ina Bennett of Bristol, TN; and her stepgrandchildren, Joel, Kristie and Jacob. She is also survived by Numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
