He was predeceased by: his parents, Frank Short and Hester Short; his daughter Stephanie Crean; his grandson Ty Jarvis; and his sister Dorothy Taylor.

He is survived by: his wife Lynda Short; his children, Daniel Short, J. J. Short, Robert Jarvis (Tammy), Whitney Sanders, Tony McMillan (Angel), Lee McMillan (Barbara) and Regina Perkins; his sister Janet Turner; and his close friends, Doug Cooper, John, Brenda Winegar and Junior Arnold. He is also survived by dog, "King" along with several nieces and nephews.
