He was predeceased by: his parents, Estil Short and Mildred Short (Mabry); his former wife Reba Crowder Short; his stepson Travis Davis; and also, Willas Short, Jack Short and Inez Short.
He is survived by: his wife Janice Short; his children, Michael Short (Lisa), Randy Short and Rhonda Short; his stepchildren, Tracy Davis, Trinette Wix (Jimi) and Tabitha Davis; his grandchildren, Wendy, Shaun, VanEric, Kyle, Kayla and Erica; his stepgrandchildren, Maddy, Amber, Bret, Brent, Brittany, Kesha and Kara; and his siblings, Leeman Short, Joyce Edwards, Virginia Brown, Hazel Bray and Loudean West. He is also survived by many great grandchildren.
