She was predeceased by: her parents, Clarence Edwin and Mary Throgmorton Matthews; her husbands, Norris C. Blackburn, Jr. and Ralph P. Carpenter; her son Norris C. "Chip" Blackburn, III; and her siblings, William T., C. E. Matthews and Esther M. Helfrich.
She is survived by: her children, Mary Blackburn of Wilmington, NC and John Blackburn of Morristown. She is also survived by five grandchildren; six great-grandchildren.
