She was predeceased by: her parents, Manuel Burke and Theodocia Johnson Burke; her husband George Soward; her daughter Jeanne Chaffin; and her siblings, Eugene Burke, Bill Burke, Jeri Sowards (Paul), Ronald Gene and Mary Millie.
She is survived by: her daughter Janice Blackburn of Morristown; her grandchildren, Jared Blackburn of Morristown, Janna Murphy (Mitch) of Maryville, TN, Christa Frye (Joseph) of Martin, TN and George Chaffin (Leslie) of Hurricane, WV; her great grandchildren, Seth Murphy, Brennan Abigail Murphy, Brayden Frye, Keller and Colson Chaffin; and her son-in-law Tom Chaffin of Huntington, WV. She is also survived by several nieces and nephews, and a host of friends and neighbors.
Visitation was held on Monday, January 6th 2025 from 4:00 PM to 6:00 PM at the Bethel Baptist Church. A graveside service was held on Tuesday, January 7th 2025 at 2:00 PM and at 6:00 PM.
