He was predeceased by: his siblings, Melvin Jr., Adrain, David, Caroline, Zella and Elize.
He is survived by: his wife Jessie Combs Griffith; his sons, Ellis of Morristown, Alvin of Morristown and Jason Griffith (Lindsey) of Morristown; his grandchildren, Austin, Kirsten, Jessika and Sophia; and his siblings, Ronald Griffith (Elizabeth), Barbara Ferrell (David) of Morristown, Linda Wireman (Paul) of Ohio, Elmer Slone of Indiana and Marietta Thornsberry of Kentucky.
