He was predeceased by: his wife Lillie Dean Burgess; his parents, Jesse Hershel and Nannie Belle Mayberry Burgess; his siblings, Cezillia Barrett and David Burgess; and his granddaughter Emily Boyd.
He is survived by: his children, Terry Eugene Burgess (Debbie), Tanzie Swim, Tammy Boyd and Tonya Page (Steve); and his siblings, Mary Etta Bouldin, Delilah Watson (Larry), Zodell Jones, Harlan Burgess, Carlie Burgess (Armanda), Arvil Burgess and Daniel Burgess (Monica). He is also survived by 13 grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren.
