He was predeceased by: his parents, Roy Blanton and Lola Mae Yates; his son Samuel Yates; his brothers, Coy Yates, Glenn Blanton and Joel Blanton; and his siblings-in-law, Clifford Fisher, Joyce Jones, Eva Jacque and Betty Bergeron.
He is survived by: his wife Rose Fisher Yates of Morrison, TN; his son David Thomas Yates, Jr. (Rebekah) of Wartrace, TN; his sisters, Teresa Bennett of McMinnville, TN and Norma Dickinson of McMinnville, TN; and his siblings-in-law, Paul Fisher (Sharon) of South Carolina, Kenny Fisher (Mary) of Massachusetts, Jan Martin of South Carolina, Essie Shirley of South Carolina, Jane Kulis of Massachusetts and Bonnie Slitz of Massachusetts. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews.
