He was predeceased by: his parents, Layton Boles and Lola Boles (Smith); his grandparents, Robert "Wormie" and Myrtle Boles; his brothers, William Smith and Robert James Boles; and his niece Julie Ann Smith.

He is survived by: his daughter Elizabeth Boyd (James); his grandson Jeremiah Boyd; his siblings, Richard Smith and Fawn LaFever (Richard); and his nieces and nephews, T. J. Price, Richard Smith, Jr., Rodney Smith, Bob Smith, Paul Smith, John Smith, Danielle Herald, Cindy Kay Sayers-Williams and Robin Smith.

In lieu of flowers, the family request donations to be made toward funeral expenses.
