She was predeceased by: her parents, Will F. Dunavant and Delah Mae Tillman Dunavant; her spouse Thomas L. Hayes; and her siblings, Willie Floyd Dunavant, Franklin D. Dunavant, Alene Laster, June Wyatt and Jerl Don Dunavant.

She is survived by: her daughter Kathy S. Hayes Ruffin (Charles); her grandchildren, Charles "Brent" Ruffin (Lauren) and Catherine Blake Ruffin; and her brother Johnny Wayne Dunavant. She is also survived by nieces and nephews.
