He was predeceased by: his wife Velta Marie Simmons; his daughter Lorraine Griffin; his son-in-law Kenneth Griffin; his great grandchild Angelene Lee Simmons; and his siblings, Margaret Mayo, John Simmons, Thomas Simmons, Linwood Simmons, Paul Simmons and Fred Simmons.
He is survived by: his sons, Richard A. Simmons (Lisa) of Mason, TN and Harry A. Simmons, Jr. (Michele) of Millington; his brother Joseph Simmons (Jacqueline) of Disputana, VA; and his grandchildren, Chris Barratt (Jessica), Rachel Simmons, Rich Simmons (Danielle), Tripp Simmons (Becky), Kate Pemberton (Charles), Emily Robison (Kenneth) and K. C. Griffin.
