He was predeceased by: his parents, Freeman Byrd and Una Massey; and his son Jamie McDonald. He is survived by: his wife Mary Byrd of Milan, Tennessee; his children, Eddie Byrd (Jennifer) of Milan, David Rinks (Amber) of Milan, Tennessee and Christina Byrd of Milan, Tennessee; his sister Wilba Miller of Alabama; and his daughter-in-law Selina McDonald of Trezevant, Tennessee.. He is also survived by several grandchildren and great grandchildren.
In honor of Rodger's request, the family asks that in lieu of flowers, donations be made in his honor to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.
