He was predeceased by: his parents, Bennie Larkin and Shellie Neill Simons; his wife Helen Pugh Simons (Milan); his sister Reba Simons Baites; and his nephew Jimmy Pugh.

He is survived by: his nephew James Hammond Baites; and his nieces, Shellie Baites Bosshart, Amy Baites Fischer, Judy Carol Baites, Jamie Baites Pottberg and Donna Pugh Copous.
